Qualifying to Order an M1 Garand Rifle from the Civilian Marksmanship Program

M1 Garand from Civilian Marksmanship Program

Attending a Project Appleseed event and purchasing a Project Appleseed Membership fulfills two requirements to buy an M1 Garand from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). Through its various sales programs, the CMP offers shooters the opportunity to own and shoot vintage military rifles from World War I and II, such as the M1 Garand and the M1903 Springfield. These rifles not only serve as historical artifacts but also as functional firearms that can be used in competitions and recreational shooting.

The CMP also sells surplus ammunition, allowing shooters to acquire affordable and authentic military-grade rounds for their vintage rifles. Access to surplus firearms and ammunition adds an exciting dimension to the CMP experience, connecting shooters with American history and the thrill of shooting these iconic battle rifles.

The Civilian Marksmanship Program was originally established in 1903 by the U.S. Congress as part of the War Department to ensure that civilian shooters were adequately trained in marksmanship. Over time, the CMP transitioned into a civilian-run organization and is now dedicated to promoting firearms safety, training, and competition.
